Northbound Software Group LLC operates ChatGPT Fork. This policy explains how the extension handles information.
When a user submits a fork question or applies a fork result, the extension sends the selected ChatGPT source snapshot and fork transcript to the ChatGPT Fork backend. Hosted requests also include a transient Google OAuth access token for authentication.
Opening ChatGPT, hovering a response, opening the fork panel, and viewing History do not send conversation content to the backend.
Conversation context is used only to generate the requested fork response or Apply instruction, prevent abuse, and operate the service. The backend sends required context to OpenAI using stateless requests with application storage disabled. ChatGPT Fork does not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Fork history and deduplicated source snapshots remain in the user's local Chrome storage until the user deletes them, clears all extension data, removes the extension, or clears the browser profile. Exported files remain wherever the user saves them and must be deleted separately.
The extension does not persist Google OAuth access tokens. The backend processes submitted content transiently and does not persist or log transcript text, AI output, OAuth tokens, Google account identifiers, or evidence excerpts. Operational logs are limited to request ID, method, route, status, and latency.
Every OpenAI request sets store: false, which disables Responses API application-state storage. This setting does not by itself disable OpenAI's abuse-monitoring logs. Under OpenAI's standard API controls, submitted content may be retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring unless stronger retention controls apply. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default unless the API account opts in.
Google provides authentication and cloud hosting. OpenAI provides AI processing. Their processing is governed by their applicable terms and privacy policies.
Users can remove locally saved fork data through History or the extension popup. Users can stop remote processing by not submitting fork questions or Apply requests and can remove the extension at any time.
